Helping today's youth GRASP infinite opportunities
Donations to GRASP are used directly to support:

    * The daily in-school student help by GRASP Financial Aid Advisors
    * The training for our advisors. We provide intensive training each year, including attendance at such collaborative programs as the Virginia College Access Network conferences.
    * Outreach and other operating needs of GRASP
    * Last Dollar Scholarships for students in need

GRASP welcomes donations from foundations, individuals  and businesses. In some instances, GRASP can qualify your donation under Virginia’s Neighborhood Assistance Act. The purpose of the Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) is to encourage businesses and individuals to contribute directly to NAP approved “neighborhood organizations.” NAP emphasizes partnerships between the private and public sector to assist the economically deprived. Under NAP, Virginia state tax credits of 40% are provided as an incentive for businesses and individuals to contribute directly to approved non-profit organizations whose primary function is providing assistance for those people who are sturuggling economically. GRASP will complete the necessary paperwork to enable the issuance of eligible tax credits to donors.

GRASP solicits contributions to support our daily operation, in-school advising program and "last dollar" scholarships for students and families of low to modest financial means, and for students with one or more disabilities as defined under the federal IDEA legislation.

A financial statement is available upon written request from the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Office of Consumer Affairs.

A number of specific services and projects may be sponsored all or in part by individuals, businesses and foundations to make possible the delivery of GRASP services to schools and students. Donations can be anonymous, named for the donor, or for someone the donor wishes to honor.

$4,500 each - Adopt a School
While some schools reimburse GRASP a small portion of our annual cost for in-school advisors, others are unable to do so. Annually, it costs GRASP an average of $4,500 per school to provide our in-school advisor services plus our scholarships to the school.  Businesses, individuals and foundations are encouraged to “Adopt a School” or all schools in a locality, thus enabling GRASP to continue our services in the schools.

$250 - $2,000 - Last Dollar Scholarships
GRASP emphasizes raising funds for a general pool of advisor-recommended “Last Dollar Scholarships." Often advisors can package about 90% of the cost of a student's post-secondary education plan through available financial aid, but then the student cannot accept the plan because of missing “last dollar” costs. These scholarships are given to financially challenged students who maintain at least a C average and meet other requirements that may be specified by the donor. Scholarships for each student range from $250 book scholarships to $2,000 supplements for tuition or room and board.

Specific Donation Opportunities
“I’m a senior at John G. Wood High School. I don’t really know my parents, but know they didn’t graduate high school. No one ever thought I would make it this far, let alone almost making it to college. This is come true because I have been working hard and working with GRASP on applying for college and getting scholarships. If GRASP hadn’t of come into my life, I don’t think I would have made it this far.”  Anthony Briggs
